2018 Employment opportunities 

We are currently interviewing candidates for full-time field hand positions for the 2018 growing season. We will be hiring workers with at least one year of commercial farming experience to begin in April/May and work 40 hours a week through September/October. Please see below for more detailed job descriptions. 

FIELD HAND (Vegetable Focus)
Full Time: 40 hours a week, April - September/October

Job Description:
Assistance with all daily farm activities including (but not limited to) seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, setting up irrigation, washing and packing vegetables, tractor work, CSA preparation. You will be expected to work farmers’ market shifts as a part of your 40 hour per week schedule. Time will be spent in the greenhouse, in the field and at markets. Work is fast-paced and physically demanding. 

Requirements:
Candidates must have at least one year of farming experience on a commercial farm. Must be able to lift 50lbs. and be on their feet for 6 hours straight. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, excellent listening and communication skills, and ability to work with efficiency in a team setting. We do not offer housing so reliable transportation to and from the farm is necessary (we are located 20 minutes from downtown Portland). 

Work Environment & Schedule:
The job will be 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with a one hour unpaid lunch break. Start times are early on harvest and market days (6am), and we work in all weather conditions. Bumbleroot's daily field operations are managed by three of Bumbleroot's owners with whom you will work closely. 


FIELD HAND (Flower Focus)
Full Time: 40 hours a week, May - september/October

Job Description:
Assistance with all daily farm activities including (but not limited to) seeding, transplanting, weeding, setting up irrigation, trellising vegetables and flowers, pinching & deadheading, harvesting vegetables and flowers, and making floral arrangements and bouquets. This full-time position will work with both vegetables and flowers with a focus on cut flower production and floral design. Some days will be spent entirely with the vegetable crew, harvest days will start in the flower field and move into making bouquets for farmers' markets and our flower CSA. There is also the possibility for farmers' market shifts as well as floral design for weddings and events. Time will be spent in the greenhouse, in the field and in the flower processing/design space. Work is fast-paced and physically demanding.
