Focus: Field, Pack House & Deliveries
(Seasonal, Full-Time)

Season: April- October - 2026
Hours per week:
40+ hours peak season, 35 hours shoulder seasons
Weekly schedule: M - F with one Saturday shift per month
Compensation:
$19/hr.

Job Description:

This position will include all work related to vegetable production with a focus on supporting our wash/pack team and delivery driving shifts around the greater Portland area. You will participate in all daily farm activities with a specialized role on harvest days. Harvest days are the busiest days of the week on the farm - we harvest thousands of pounds of vegetables, process them, and load them into walk-in coolers and delivery vans to be distributed to wholesale accounts. We take pride in the quality and freshness of our product, and this role is critical to moving our products from the field to our customers.

In addition to delivery driving shifts, you will also be expected to work CSA and farm stand shifts as a part of your regular schedule. Your time will be split between our greenhouses and fields, the pack house, and delivery routes. Work is fast-paced and physically demanding.

Task list:

  • General farm tasks:

    • Bed Prep (spreading compost, fertilizer, mulch)

    • Seeding

    • Transplanting

    • Weeding

    • Harvesting

    • Trellising

    • Setting up irrigation

    • Washing totes & general farm cleanup

  • Wash/pack tasks:

    • Vegetable washing/processing 

    • Packing wholesale orders in accordance with Bumbleroot pack/labelling system

    • Communicating with wash/pack team and harvest team throughout the packing process

    • Sorting, fulfilling and reviewing orders to ensure they are complete 

    • Keeping workspace clean, tidy and up to food safety standards

  • Delivery driving responsibilities:

    • Determining most efficient delivery route (with support from wash/pack managers) and safely executing up to 20-25 stops in the Greater Portland area

    • Carefully loading products onto delivery vans and unloading at each stop

    • Maintaining a professional attitude, appearance and high level of customer service when interfacing with customers and chefs

    • Emptying and tidying delivery vehicles after each use

    • Troubleshooting in the event of unexpected challenges

Requirements:

Candidates must have at least one year of farming experience on a commercial farm. We are looking for candidates with a strong work ethic and positive attitude, excellent listening and communication skills, and ability to work with efficiency in a team setting, day after day. Farming at Bumbleroot is fun, fulfilling, and very physically demanding. Self-motivation, stamina, hustle and a drive to work hard are key to this position along with the following qualifications: 

  • Must have a current drivers license with a clean driving record

  • Ability and willingness to drive a large van up to 4 hours at a time, with frequent stops in a busy commercial area

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs. on a regular basis, including loading and unloading crates, flower buckets and stacks of crates onto shelving and in/out of vehicles

  • Must be able to stay on your feet for long periods on the farm, and conversely sit for long periods in the delivery vehicle

  • Strong communication skills and customer service skills

  • Positive, team-oriented attitude

  • Interest in working both independently and as a part of a team

  • Attention to detail, organization and quality standardsMust have a current drivers license with a clean driving record

Work Environment & Schedule:

Bumbleroot's daily field operations are managed by Bumbleroot's owners and managers with whom you will work closely. There will be occasional independent work but most of your time will be spent working in teams to complete tasks. We work in all weather conditions. Schedule details are as follows:

  • Shoulder seasons (April & October) - 35 hours per week, 8am - 4pm

  • Main season (May - September) - 40 hours per week, 7am - 4pm

  • Peak season harvest days (Tuesdays & Fridays, June - September) - 6am - 4pm

  • One Saturday shift per month (7:30am - 1:30pm)

  • Paid morning break daily

  • One hour unpaid lunch break daily

We pay overtime (1.5x) for every hour worked over 40 hours per week. We currently cultivate 5-6 acres of certified organic vegetables and cut flowers. We use a combination of tractor-based practices as well as no-till methods and our entire operation is certified organic. All planting, weeding, harvesting, and processing is done by hand. In 2025 we employed 15 farmers - some year-round and some seasonal - these folks are the heart of our farm. We utilize 6 high tunnels and 6 caterpillar tunnels to extend our growing season.
