Bumbleroot Organic Farm is a small certified organic farm located in Buxton, Maine. For the 2016 season we are growing vegetables, flowers, and herbs for sale at the Portland Farmers' Market, the Saco Farmers' Market, the Kittery Community Market and through our CSA.

Bumbleroot Flowers & Herbs

We've expanded our flower program this year with our first ever flower CSA and more mixed bouquets going to markets each week. The flower season began with snapdragons, agrostemma, and bachelor's buttons, and now we're harvesting our summer flowers- zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, and the farm favorite- dahlias! You'll often find herbs tucked into our bouquets for their unique aromas and textures- pictured here is chamomile, and we've also used garlic scapes, sage, and mint. Don't forget our flower CSA in 2017...
 

2016 Farmers' Markets 

Wednesdays (May-November):  Portland Farmers' Market in Monument Square (right in downtown Portland) from 7am-1pm
Saturdays (May-October): Saco Farmers' Market  in the Saco Valley Shopping Center parking lot from 7am-noon
Sundays (June-September):  Kittery Community Market in Post Office Square- 10 Shapleigh Road from 10am-2pm

Transition to new land

In May, the four members of Bumbleroot purchased the beautiful Weeks Farm property in Windham, Maine. This is a dream come true for us and we are so grateful to the Weeks family and Maine Farmland Trust for ensuring this historic farmland maintains its agricultural identity. We will continue farming on our leased land in Buxton for the 2016 growing season and make the transition to our new space in the fall. We'll be up and running on the Windham land next spring. We can't wait!

If you're going out to eat in Portland this summer, keep your eye out for Bumbleroot's name on the menu! We partner with more than 10 restaurants in the Greater Portland area, including David's, Surlie, and 555 in Portland, MK Kitchen in Gorham, and Tao Yuan in Brunswick. We are continually amazed by how committed local chefs are to using Maine-grown products, and grateful that so many have been willing to work with us. At the request of our chefs, this year we've added microgreens (pictured to the left) to our offerings, and they've fast become one of our most popular products.

Certified Organic

We are committed to using sustainable farming practices to improve the health of our soil and the integrity of our land. By using only organic fertilizers and soil amendments, planting organic seeds whenever available, cover cropping our fields, and rotating our crop plantings, we have held to MOFGA's (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) organic standards. They have granted us our certification and we're proud to call our vegetables, flowers, and herbs organic.
